Our dissapearance from reality: The Curse of the TV shows

Man in his best years (you know, for men the best years last and last and last). Writer, beer drinker, interested in anything cool and nothing whatsoever.
With the coming of internet, google, twitter, facebook, one would think that these are the things that take the most of young adult's time. However, I beg to differ. I'm basing this conclusion on myself, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. After all, even Slate run a story about a similar issue. Our neglection of reality doesn't come for internet directly. Rather, through the sites like netflix, megavideo, thepiratebay, that lets us watch all those hundreds of TV shows we feel SO passionate about.

And I know what I'm talking about. Slate magazine called it binge-watching and I can't agree with them more. I think some years back I actually watched 3 seasons of Las Vegas in a row. Well, what else should you do with your life, right?

Watching things from internet, at least initially, looked a lot better option to me than watching anything from the TV. Mainly for one reason - if you're kind of a (hopefully) small time TV addict, you don't have to pass on a party because the new episode of The Firm is on. Yes, before everything was available in the internet, I know people who did that.

However, these days, you can look through tens of thousands of TV series and with hundreds of thousands of episodes. And those TV-addicts, I guess I could definitely include myself in this pathetic bunch, have the chance to see it all, everything they want to.

And while these days we don't need to stay home to watch a a new episode from TV, we spend a lot of time while we are home, watching 10 episodes in a row. And that's not a good thing. Do something else with your life. And yeah, I am talking to myself, the most.

I am trying to watch less and less of the shows and movies from the net, not sure how it will go though, but I did set myself a breaking point of a sort. Once I was talking to my friends about TV shows and also how much I watch them actually. And then I told them that for now, there's no time to worry. But the first time I try to watch or download an episode of the Bold and The Beautiful, please, start worrying about me.
