How to find your calling? It's easy breezy!

Man in his best years (you know, for men the best years last and last and last). Writer, beer drinker, interested in anything cool and nothing whatsoever.
Right? I bet when you were eight years old, you knew exactly what you want to do. You also had a pretty good idea when you were 14. When you were 21, you knew that it will come to you soon, whatever it is you might want to do. Ten years later, you're not worried, you know your calling will find you soon! And you know what? It will. But you do need to put your neck out for it for it to find you.

Please note that all the easy breezy stuff to follow, or at least most of it, assume that you are ready to come out of your comfort zone. If you aren't, just stop reading now and go put your bed under the pillow. Or how the saying was exactly, I'm sure it sounded somewhat like my version. Right?

I'm aware many people out there say that you need a plan for life and having a 5-year plan either for yourself or your business is the absolute minimum. I don't agree with that. You can have certain ideas, certain expectations, certain wishes of how your life should be in five years, but please, stop worrying about the future and live in today. Max Gunther has once said in his book that "Long-range plans assume that the future is under control, but it is, is it really? No. And if you can’t know what you’re planning for, how can you make a sensible plan?". So stop crying about the future, and start thinking about what you want to do today.

Do whatever you like, try new things, participate in new activities, take on new hobbies, learn new skills - only this way can you see what you actually like doing. When someone presents you with an unexpected opportunity, don't just say no because you don't know anything about it or think you are not interested in it. Instead, think why you should try it out and only when you can't think of anything, say no. But most of the time, rest assured, you'll end up saying yes. And so you should. Take advantage of opportunities that fall on your lap, they might turn out to be just the thing you wanted to do, or somehow, through some weird and complicated labyrinths lead the way to it.

Be flexible - one thing is to be flexible when you don't have any long term plans (as I have suggested above). But flexibility doesn't just matter in connection to plans. Rather, once you have found something, it doesn't necessarily mean you need to stick with it for years and years. You can always turn to something new. Be flexible in that sense.

What do you feel happy doing? If you can combine work with pleasure, that's a perfect situation. But even then, very often people tend to forget that the work isn't everything, the work shouldn't define you. The final goal for all of us is happiness. Or at least should be.

If you have found your calling, but it doesn't bring in the expected amounts of money, it doesn't necessarily mean you need to change. Try sticking with it and not let it affect your enthusiasm. That's how great things are actually born.

Types of people you need
In my opinion, in order to find your calling and stick with it, you will need two types of people in your life. Ones who will always help you with anything you might need help with. Obviously, you need to return the favors, that's how it works.

And the other type of people who you need in your life are people who say that the thing you're looking to do, can't be done. Of course, preferably they are still your good friends, with learned mindset. They know how things are being done and the way you propose them, don't make any sense. Why do you need this kind of people in your life? Simply because they can motivate you a lot more than anyone who tells you how well it *might* work or if done right, it *could* work. Rather, people who say it won't work, can motivate you to work on it more enthusiastically, just to prove that it CAN work.

However, there's one thing I'd like to point out. You shouldn't be eagerly competitive here, simply let the people give you the motivation you need, don't use it later to shove their opinion in their face. It's not what it's all about.

Easy breezy! What are you doing right now? Are you satisfied? Well, yes, I mean work-wise. Or are you simply living your day-to-day life, doing something and going nowhere? If so, maybe it's time for you to start looking for a new calling, something that would help you get closer to achieving your dreams. Maybe it's time to find something more rewarding.
